Bridgwater Tidal Barrier

We delivered statutory authority for a significant new barrier that will provide substantial benefits to communities at risk of flooding.

We advised on complex environmental matters. The barrier will need to be operated with increasing frequency over the course of its 100 year lifetime due to rising sea levels. This means there is uncertainty regarding its longer term environmental effects. We assisted the Agency to develop proportionate long term adaptive mitigation measures. This meant that the barrier could be consented and deliver much needed flood risk management benefits without giving rise to adverse effects on the water environment.
