Canada Dock, Canada Water Masterplan
British Land, London Borough of Southwark, Townshend Landscape Architects and London Wildlife Trust
The Canada Dock project, part of the Canada Water masterplan, aims to improve the ecology and biodiversity of a wetland habitat that has been designated a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation. The design includes seven wetland islands, providing habitats for birds, bats, invertebrates, and amphibians. A Biodiversity Net Gain Assessment found a 10.77% increase in biodiversity units should be achieved after the project is completed in spring 2024. The judges admired “a transformative scheme” that “will truly enhance biodiversity and provide an environment where people and nature are properly connected”.
