Entrant's Summary: Crown Wharf will regenerate Canning Town centre and transform the existing industrial site into a sustainable mixed-use development with 800 homes above active ground floor retail, woven together with high-quality public realm. Allocated for development within LB of Newham’s ‘arc of opportunity’, the challenge was to overcome significant physical barriers on a site that is currently isolated to create a destination. As the first parcel of land to be developed in the wider area, this required looking beyond the boundary to how the development would tie into and catalyse regeneration in this typically industrial, yet evolving, part of London.
