Forest Road makes excellent use of an under-utilised site, to provide 100% affordable homes for first-time buyers. Whilst sold at a 20% discount to the local market, the homes do not compromise on spatial or design excellence and are well-proportioned to maximise usability and functionality. The scheme secured planning consent during the pandemic, and also faced the challenge of a contractor insolvency once on-site. The exceptionally high-quality helped justify a greater height and density than the original site allocation despite the heritage context. This included special attention to the building’s external expression and façade treatment.
