MARIAN PLACE GASHOLDER SITE, BETHNAL GREEN

St William Homes LLP

Executive summary:

Led by the retention of two Victorian gasholders and exceptional architecture by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, the redevelopment of the Marian Place Gasholder site in Bethnal Green will balance preservation and transformation. This transformation will mirror that of the wider Regent’s Canal Conservation Area, which has evolved from a thriving industrial and commercial corridor to a space that supports recreation, ecology and wellbeing whilst continuing to showcase some of London’s most significant industrial heritage.

The form of the proposed buildings derives from the historic use of the site with five faceted buildings, two of which are located within the existing gasholder guide frames. As its custodian, St William are committed to providing public access to the site, including a substantial stretch of the Regent’s Canal, for this first time in more than 150 years.
