New Life for Old College, Aberystwyth University

Entrant's Summary: Old College is an architecturally significant 19th century building which was the birthplace of the University of Wales. Proposals by Lawray Architects will see the Grade I listed building and the adjacent Grade II listed villas transform the University’s historic home into an exhibition centre, a place of learning and discovery, and a hub for creative business start-ups. Supported with a boutique hotel, conference facilities, wedding and event spaces, the complex will not only provide amenities for students and the local community but also attract an estimated 200,000 visitors annually putting it on par with major tourist destinations in Wales.
