Ratcliffe-on-Soar Local Development Order: delivering a transition to a low carbon future

Entrant's Summary: Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station is a coal fired power station in Nottinghamshire, scheduled for closure in September 2024. Arup and Uniper collaborated to support Rushcliffe Borough Council in establishing a Local Development Order (LDO) to transition the site to a more sustainable future, based on low-carbon energy generation and advanced manufacturing businesses. The Local Development Order grants permission for 810,000m2 floorspace, creating up to 8,000 jobs in the high-tech, green economy. Innovative solutions were embedded to deliver necessary infrastructure improvements and environmental mitigation, whilst providing potential investors with the certainty and flexibility needed to ensure that this major site has a sustainable future.
