Restoration and reuse of the historic EMD Granada Walthamstow
London Borough of Waltham Forest
The Walthamstow Granada served as a cinema and concert venue for more than seven decades before closing in 2003 and falling into disrepair. Then, in 2019, Waltham Forest Council bought the venue and struck a deal with Soho Theatre to open its doors once again. A team of conservation experts is restoring the Grade II listed building to its 1930s appearance and Historic England has provided both support and funding. The judges recognised the project’s “significant economic benefit along with the social value this will bring to the community”.
