Newcastle City Council’s Sustainability Guidance document
Newcastle City Council
The guidance demonstrates the City’s commitment towards becoming net zero and provides the tool to do this at the earliest stage of development. It is a successful example of collaborative working between planning and climate change disciplines.
The Council can negotiate higher energy savings exceeding building regulations and assess the whole life- cycle of carbon on developments. It has been instrumental in securing sustainability in 1000s of new homes and secured sustainable development in the city centre such as the landmark 24- acre Newcastle Helix site, with its own district heating network, green roofs, and walls on all the buildings.
