The Phoenix
Human Nature
Entrant's Summary: The Phoenix is a walkable, mixed-use, multi-tenure redevelopment of a brownfield site in the South Downs National Park. It adopts a ‘whole-place’ approach to social, nature and climate impacts, going beyond a conventional ‘net-zero’ policy. It will be constructed in biobased materials, such as engineered timber; reuse existing materials from existing buildings on site; provide heat and power through a heat network powered by ground source heat pumps, and onsite photovoltaics; significantly reduce private vehicle trips by offering a suite of sustainable transport measures and limiting parking availability; and build in climate resilience through measures such as rain gardens.
